2nd generation flyspeck spores from border row hosts become available
around June 24. Beyond that date
preventive or postinfection flyspeck control is advised up until 30 days
before the latest possible harvest date. Postinfection control of flyspeck requires application of a strobilurin or Topsin M fungicide within 50 wet hours aft June 24, the estimated end of the 50 wet hour postinfection control window is June 30. Flyspeck infection risk increases with development of 3rd generation spores around July 27. Flyspeck infections that occur after protective fungicide coverage is depleted but within about 30 days before harvest will only have enough development time to appear if unusually wet weather prevails in the weeks prior to harvest. Presumably, late-season flyspeck infections require about 270 wet hours to become visible. |
